The year that Adam went to Law School (thank God he realized after 1 year that he really wanted to be a coach and quit - now I can watch him work, and even yell and be obnoxious if I want to) was hands-down, the darkest year of my life. Part of that was that I was living in a studio apartment with absolutely no furniture and a lone window that looked out at a brick wall, but part of it was being in a relationship with someone who had become absolutely absorbed in something that I had absolutely no interest in. I remember a vacation, driving to Pennsylvania to spend time with his family, and while he drove, I quizzed him on stuff from his book in preparation for an upcoming exam. I'm surprised we didn't both fall asleep and end up in a ditch.
